The Bengal Files – Storyline

The film unfolds through two parallel timelines.

The first timeline is set in the present day, where CBI officer Shiva Pandit (Darshan Kumar) is assigned to Bengal to investigate the disappearance of a Dalit girl, Sita. During his probe, he meets Maa Bharati (Pallavi Joshi) — a woman who once fought against the British and is also a living witness to the horrors of the 1946 Direct Action Day.

The second timeline takes us back to the turbulent Bengal of 1946. Here, a young Bharati Banerjee (Simrat Kaur Randhawa), along with her companion Amarjeet Arora (Eklavya Sood), faces the brutal reality of the Noakhali riots and the ruthless violence unleashed by terrorist Sarwar Husaini (Namashi Chakraborty). In the bloodshed, Bharati loses everything — her father, a respected judge (Priyanshu Chatterjee), her mother, and her beloved Amarjeet.

These haunting memories from the past become the key for Maa Bharati to guide Shiva in unravelling the truth behind Sita’s case in the present. Eventually, all clues lead to Sardar Husaini (Saswata Chatterjee), a powerful minority leader who embodies the dual faces of fear and politics in today’s Bengal.
