Mirai’ Movie Review

Story

The film takes us back to the era of Emperor Ashoka. After realizing the devastating consequences of war, Ashoka seals his extraordinary powers into nine sacred scrolls and entrusts them to warriors across different nations. These scrolls have been guarded for generations.

But now, Mahaveer Lama (Manoj Manchu), who has mastered dark and demonic forces, seeks these scrolls to gain immortality and declare himself a god.

Standing against him is Ambika (Shriya Saran), a powerful yogini, who makes the ultimate sacrifice—giving up her own son to protect the world. That very child grows up to become Veda (Teja Sajja). Unknown to him, Veda had already absorbed the divine knowledge of Lord Ram’s celestial weapon Mirai while still in his mother’s womb.

As time passes, Lama conquers eight scrolls, leaving only the ninth—now under Veda’s protection. Though Veda seems far weaker than Lama, the question remains: will he rise to save the world, or will Lama achieve immortality and crown himself a god?

Highlights

Director Karthik Ghattamneni beautifully fuses ancient mythology with a modern-day narrative. With a budget of around ₹60 crore, Mirai delivers a striking blend of mythology and science fiction.

From the mighty eagle Sampati, to Samurai-inspired sword fights, Kung Fu–Judo combat, and high-octane chase sequences, the film is a visual spectacle.

On an emotional level, the film emphasizes themes of sacrifice, especially the bond between mother and son. The modern and cool portrayal of Sage Agastya, Lord Ram’s guru, is a clever attempt to connect with today’s youth.

Technical Aspects

  • Dialogues: Impactful and aligned with the storyline.

  • Cinematography: Stunning visuals that elevate the grandeur.

  • Background Score: Enhances both action-packed and emotional moments.

  • Runtime: Feels slightly stretched; trimming could have made it even sharper.

The climax action sequences, however, are spine-chilling and keep audiences glued to their seats.

Performances

  • Teja Sajja (Veda): After Hanu-Man, he impresses yet again. His transformation from a street-smart youngster to a chosen warrior battling dark forces is convincing and powerful.

  • Manoj Manchu (Mahaveer Lama): A commanding presence as a larger-than-life villain, excelling especially in action sequences.

  • Shriya Saran (Ambika): Brings grace and intensity, doing full justice to her role with her look and dialogue delivery.

  • Jayaram Subramaniam (Sage Agastya) & Jagapathi Babu (Angma Bali): Both leave a strong mark with their performances.

Verdict

Mirai is a grand visual treat that blends mythology, sci-fi, and high-octane action with strong emotional undercurrents. With a powerful villain, emotional stakes, and a breathtaking climax, the film is engaging throughout. A slightly shorter runtime would have made it near-perfect.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
